o   User will then be bombarded with fake security alerts in order to trick them into paying a license fee

o   People who fall for the scam, may then compromise their credit card info

o   Redspin Research stated that HIPAA data breaches have climbed 138% in past year

o   Lisa Gallagher, Senior Director of Privacy and Security for HIMSS, stated that somewhere between 40-45 million PHI records have been compromised.

o   Michaels Stores (craft store chain in U.S.) notified 2.6 customers that their credit cards and debit cards may have been exposed during a security breach.

o   The Michigan Department of Community Health notified 2,595 patients that their PHI was exposed when a laptop computer was stolen.

o   La Palma Intercommunity Hospital of California alerted an unknown number of patients that their PHI was exposed after a former employee allegedly accessed their info.

o   UPMC of Pennsylvania notified 27,000 of its employees that their info was exposed because of a data security breach.

o   The Canada Revenue Agency notified 900 taxpayers that their info was compromised due to a security breach caused by HeartBleed bug.
