Lexmark’s software division reorg
– In interview with press, Lexmark’s Enterprise Software division’s chief, Reynolds Bish, describes changes made (he came to Lexmark after his company, Kofax, was acquired by Lexmark)
– Lexmark software sales reps no longer compete against each other o Readsoft document capture solution now focused on customers using SAP
o Kofax document capture solution now focused on customers using Oracle
o Brainware document capture solution now focused on Accounts Payable departments
– Moves sales reps to SalesForce CRM
– Moved ERP to SAP
– Claims to have 30,000 customers worldwide
– Howard Dratler is now EVP of Field Operations

Lexmark to become Chinese company?
– Reuters New Service reported that company may be acquired by Apex Technology of China, which is a remanufacturer of printer cartridges
– The Recycler Magazine reported that the company may be acquired by Lenovo of China, which acquired the PC hardware portion of IBM (aka Thinkpad laptops, etc.) o Lenovo CEO William Amelio and Lexmark CEO Paul Curlander are both former IBM executives
– Also being reported that either deal would have influence and financial support from Chinese government
Lexmark hardware revenue prediction
– Trefis, an analyst firm, predicts that the company’s hardware business will shrink by 2020
– Total number of MFP units sold down to 1.4 million
– Average selling price of MFP = $449
– Total number of laser printers sold down to 1.8 million
– Average number of printer cartridges acquired per printer = 4.8
– Average selling price of cartridges = $223
YSoft to enter the document capture market
– YSoft, headquartered in the Czech Republic, is historically a print management cost recovery (aka “follow me”) solution provider, competing against Nuance Equitrac, Pharos, Papercut, etc.
– Claims to have 14,000 customers worldwide
– Has 300 employees, 40% of which are in development
– Now has scanning division lead by Wouter Koelewijn, who was founder of document capture solution vendor, X-Solutions, which was acquired by Nuance eCopy.
– New product, YSoft SafeQ 6, is first scanning platform for MFPs o Scan to SharePoint, Dropbox, On Base and Documentum
– Has 20 developers working on product
– Next year will make APIs (application protocol interface) available to partners
– Will launch summer of 2016
– Will compete against Nuance eCopy, NSi Autostore, etc.
Ingram Micro publishes cloud survey data
– 95% of IT professionals are utilizing some form of cloud technology
– 50% of SMBs (small to medium sized businesses) expect to be running 100% of their IT in the cloud by 2022
– 5% of all current ECM (enterprise content management) implementations are in cloud
– 85% of senior IT security executives say they are now keeping sensitive data in the cloud
– ECM vendors report that 20-50% of new business now coming from cloud sales
Toshiba names new executive
– Toshiba America Business Solutions announced it has named Joseph Contreras as new Vice President of Product and Solutions Marketing

– Total revenue of $1.074 billion, down 5.96% from $1.116 billion

Sharp’s new owner starts making changes
– Terry Gou, founder of Hon Hai Precision (aka Foxconn), which acquired controlling interest in Sharp, announced management changes
– Katsuaki Nomura is new EVP for Sharp, and is currently chairman of Sakai Display Products Corp.
– Will be in charge of accounting and finance
– Taimi Okentani is now Executive Managing Officer of Display Device Division

Ricoh announces it won production contract
– Award from Sir Speedy location in Marham, Ontario, Canada
– Installed a Pro C7100X production color system with optional 5th toner station
– Reasons given for choosing the C7100X was ability to print on 16pt stock, clear toner, saddle stitch booklets and vacuum feed paper trays

Ricoh announces partnership with Microsoft
– Joint development and provision of solutions o Will initially only by in Japan
o Combines Microsoft’s cloud services for enterprise with Ricoh’s helpdesk, deployment support and other services
o Use Ricoh NETBegin BB Pack Select, an information system integration and maintenance service for SMB
– Microsoft will provide training to 11,700 Ricoh employees in Japan
– Goal is 200,000 users nationwide in Japan
Ricoh launches Intelligent Locker Solution
– For mail centers that handle high package volume
– Uses Smart Device technology
– Assigns dynamic login credentials to individual personal use lockers so permanent and guest users can be granted controlled access to locker
– Locker then reassigned to new user once vacated
– Cloud-based centralized monitoring and management
– When package is received and placed in locker, intended recipient is automatically alerted via email or text

– EMC, as part of its plan to shed assets before its takeover by Dell later this year, will sell off Documentum division

3D Systems announces new CEO
– Named Vyomesh Joshi as new CEO of the 3D printer company
