  • Xerox announced that its new MFPs will be compatible with UniPrint Infinity cost recovery solution via an optional VPQ connector, providing an interface on the Xerox MFP’s color touchscreen to retrieve secure print jobs.

 

  • Xerox is apparently no longer providing service for its fleet at University of Hawaii, according to local newspaper, where supposedly the university has not made a payment in 18 months due to financial difficulties.

  • Humidity affects paper in digital presses, according to John Braceland of Whattheythink.com:

    • Reported lower than expected results

    • Software license revenue would be down slightly
    • “our overall results were lower than our expectations for the quarter due to 6 and 7 figure core capture software license revenue transactions primarily in the enterprise or the most direct segment of the market, slipping into future quarters”
    • “this has now occurred in two consecutive quarters and we have to recognize that this segment of core capture continues to be dependent upon such 6 and 7 figure transactions”
    • “although we know these larger deals are difficult to predict and impossible to control, they also now appear to be subject to a higher level of scrutiny and extended purchasing processes”

  • Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, who treated Thomas Eric Duncan, an Ebola victim, who recently died of the disease, now admits that a hospital worker who cared for Mr. Duncan has contracted the disease as well.
    • Daniel Varga, during a press conference, stated that the un-named hospital worker was wearing a gown, gloves, mask and a shield.
    • This is the first known case of disease being contracted or transmitted in the U.S.

  • Alameda Health System of California announced it has run out of cash trying to recover from a $77 million investment in Siemens Soarian acutecare EHR and NextGen ambulatory care EHR implementation that “did not go as well as planned”
    • “The system makes it difficult to collect the right information that you need to bill a claim and makes it hard to identify what kinds of errors are occurring. It’s very disjointed right now. A lot of mistakes are being made.”; stated the IDN’s CFO.

 

  • Box, the cloud storage provider, announced it has acquired MedXT, a medical imaging collaboration platform. Purchase price not announced.

 

  • Informatica published results of survey:
    • 40% of healthcare executives gave their organizations a grade of D or F on their preparedness to manage big data

    • Dairy Queen announced that customer credit/debit card information was accessed during a hack that affected 395 locations across the U.S.
    • The Colorado Department of Health announced that 15,000 patients had their confidentiality exposed when the Behavioral Health division sent out postcards exposing that they were patients.
