–       Muratec announced it will conduct training for its MFP dealers on how to sell VoIP (voice over IP) to supplement their revenues.

–       Canon announced that some of its imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFPs now offer panel integration with Worldox, a popular document management solution for the legal vertical.

 

–       Canon filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Aster Technology of Holland, for making and marketing print cartridges advertised to work in Canon made printers and MFPs.

–       Canon announced it won “Honorable Mention for Technology of the Year Award” for its Oce’ ColorStream 3000 production color inkjet system during the recent XPLOR show in Orlando, FL.

 

–       MGI announced it sold a Meteor DP8700XL production color system (uses engine from C8000) to Richard Photo Lab of Hollywood, CA.

 

–       The University of Chicago published results of research into effects of different rewards on employee performance:

o   Males are less sensitive to differences in color and less able to differentiate shades of colors in center of color spectrum

o   Females are better equipped to notice different shades in static objects such as wild berries or plants

o   Males show greater sensitivity to rapidly moving objects and fine detail

 

–       Samsung of South Korea announced that it posted overall revenues of $51.8 billion in first quarter of the year:

–       The FBI busted a multi-million dollar print cartridge scam in Pennsylvania:

o   Calvin Duncan, while working as a mailroom clerk for Philadelphia Water Department, ordered more than $1 million worth of print cartridges over a 6 year period, claiming they were for office staff.

o   Instead, he sold them at a low price to Derek and Danita Willis, owners of Laser Cartridge Plus of Russellville, AR.

o   The couple then sold the print cartridges for profit over the Internet.

o   The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that the average selling price of a stolen patient PHI on the black market is $50.

o   Tufts Health Plan notified 8,830 patients that their PHI was exposed after a hacker breached the network.

o   Iowa Medicaid Enterprise notified 800 patients that their PHI was exposed when the info was mailed to the wrong clinic.

o   Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush in Chicago, IL notified 1,256 patients that their PHI was exposed after an unauthorized user accessed a physician’s email account.

o   Boston Medical Center notified 15,000 patients that their PHI was exposed after a subcontractor inadvertently posted the records on a public website.
