HP CEO states security is most important

– HP Inc. is seeing “h2” demand for its commercial personal systems (PCs, laptops)

thanks in large part to investments in developing new cybersecurity capabilities, CEO

Dion Weisler said in interview with CRN magazine

– “we’ve been investing in security in the company across the board–not just in PCs but

in print as well.”

– “It’s really important for us in both printing and personal systems. We think it’s highly

differentiated,”

– “Our customers believe it is–that’s why demand for our products is really h2. And

our partners understand it as well.”

– Weisler said that just this week he took part in a private meeting with the CEO of a

major bank, who admitted that cybersecurity was his “No. 1 fear.”

– “No. 1–beyond tariffs, beyond macroeconomic issues. He said, ‘No. 1, it’s cyber.’ We

felt this a long time ago,” Weisler said. “It’s an ongoing battle against the bad guys, but

we’re investing heavily in this space.”

– HP “has made their stand on being the most secure vendor in the market space” with

Sure Sense (option for its PCs and laptops), said Juan Fernandez, vice president of

managed IT services at Oklahoma City, Okla.-based ImageNet Consulting.

– “They are coming out swinging for the fences on this thing. There’s nobody else doing

this,” Fernandez said.

– Once Sure Sense rolls out more broadly, “I do believe it will lead to additional PC

sales” for ImageNet, Fernandez said.

HP to take on non-OEM toner vendors

– HP executives have attributed the supplies drop to sales shifting online among

commercial customers.

– Part of the issue is online competition from remanufactured cartridges and third-party

alternatives, according to the company.

operational changes such as increased investments in search advertising and “upping

our game in terms of brand protection,” CEO Dion Weisler said during HP’s quarterly

call with analysts.

know if they can get there,” one dealer stated that was interviewed

o “I like the guy. Personally, I think he’s a dynamic leader. He seems to

hire really good people and give them the freedom to do their job. He

did a lot of talking at the summit. I like the things he had to say. I like

the things they’re going to do, but it’s a tough road right now.”

– “Xerox reorganizing as a holding company does not immediately impact my

business,” said one reseller. “I know Google and other large companies have

done similar things.”

– “Quite frankly, I just came from a launch meeting in Atlanta, the reseller

summit,” he said. “They mentioned announcements in the coming days that will

have no effect on businesses.”

o Xerox pushed dealers to differentiate with apps and software, and lower

the barrier to entry on selling production printers, which the partner

believes mean they have a lot of product on on the shelf.

– “They’re aggressively pursuing new dealers,” he said. “They’re aggressively

pursuing new software. The one thing they’re not doing is they’re making it a

little more difficult to get special bids. They’re increasing those requirements.

You can’t get a special bid on a $50,000 deal like you used to. The deal’s got to

be six figures to get special pricing on … They’re sitting heavy on inventory.”
