– Announced its MFP will integrate with solutions from Nuance, and will be distributed through Samsung dealers

– Asked consumers about the relevancy of direct mail received

Associated Press reviews gov searches

– Annual review of FOIA (freedom of information act) requests handled by federal government agencies

o EPA (environmental protection agency) failed 58%

Digital records accessible for 10 years?

– Preservica CEO, Jon Tilbury, wrote about the digital record storage

– “Due to file format and software obsolescence issues, along with the pace of technology refresh cycles, the consensus is that the tipping point for accessing digital data is not 100 years after it is stored, but more realistically, around 10 years.”

– “So, if you have digital files and records being created today that have a 10 year retention time or are indeed already 10+ years old, you run the risk of not being able to reach or use these when they are required.”

 

Hyland Software reports growth

– The creator of OnBase ECM (enterprise content management) software, announced that last year’s total revenue grew by 17%

– Software sales up 24%

– Is planning on hiring several hundred employees in 2016 to add to current workforce of 2100

– Claims to have installs at 14,900 different organizations

 

Google to compete with Nuance?

– One of the main sources of revenue for Nuance Corp. is selling Dragon voice recognition software

– Google, at its recent cloud user conference, unveiled Cloud Speech, which provide voice recognition services for 3rd party apps

– Will be initially free to use, but Google plans to eventually charge, and offer low cost pricing tiers

– Nuance stock share price dropped 4.2% on the news

 

Kodak to be involved with 3D printing?

– Kodak announced a partnership with Carbon Inc., in regards to a new 3D printing technology

– Announced Continuous Liquid Interface Production (CLIP) technology, which employs a unique process that uses light and oxygen to continuously grow an object from a reservoir of UV-curable resin

– Claims process is 25-100 times faster than traditional 3D printing

– “The innovativeness of CLIP attracted our attention”; stated Terry Taber, CTO of Kodak.

Landa gives out more details of new press

– Will have large display booth at upcoming Drupa show in Germany

– New devices will use Nanographic Printing (similar to liquid toner)

HPE and Microsoft invest in startup

– Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Microsoft announced that they have contributed $73.5 million in funding to data center software startup Mesosphere

– Mesosphere now have $126 million in total funding

– Provides a system that automatically distributes the appropriate resources and data to power a software application so IT staff does not have to worry about configuring servers

Kyocera opens new lab

– Kyocera (aka Kyoto Ceramic Company of Japan) announced it has established a Software Laboratory

Kyocera names new president in U.S.

– Current President and CEO of Kyocera Document Solutions American, Nori Ina, announced he is headed back to Japan

– The current head of Kyocera Italy, Yukio Ikeda, will take his place

 

Dealer wins award

– Marco has been named the winner of two 2016 Perfect Image Awards by imageSource Magazine

– Categories were Dealer of the Year and Outstanding Leadership in Customer Engagement

Lexmark in the news

– The Kansas City Business Journal reported that the company is now subleasing two floors (60,000 square feet) of its software headquarters in Lenexa, KS (this represents 25% of Lexmark’s current usage)

– Lemark spent $10.7 million “making significant efforts” to fix problems with its income taxes

– Reported that “tax leadership and personnel changes” were part of fixes

– 1,050 job cuts to start in March, and continue for next 12 months
